Bad traction issues, help please!
 

Hey guys,

So this morning in utah in the salt lake area we got a good helping of the 'ol powdery stuff.as I only recently purchased my 90 Q, i thought I would take it out to see how it did. I tried to drive it is undriveable in snow,there is a Terrible shuddering, clicking from the front drivetrain at all speeds, turning or straight. It almost feels like ABS but I think maybe the traction system for awd is broken? I don't know enough about this system to figure what is happening, anybody heard of something like this before? I will post a video in a bit to show what I am talking about. I am stumped, this did not happen at all in dry weather.

check your axles, maybe worn cv joint, you shouldn't hear or feel anything

I had my wife go outside and film a short video, it is that low clicking noise you can hear some at the first part of the video, but it is most prevalent in the last 30 seconds or so. Inside the car the whole cabin is shuddering, but i dont have any warning lights on. ( also that squeaking is the leaky break bomb, not a trapped animal)

Thanks wimkok, that is my part of my suspicion as well as I know my front driver boot is torn, but I wondering if there may be another issue because I have never heard something this bad when going straight. Also nothing like this happens on dry pavement.

For a bit more history, the steering rack was replaced over the summer. Ever since it was replaced, i have noticed something slightly odd about the front end, feels like its floating, occasional popping when turning in reverse... I made an appointment to see a front end specialist in a few weeks, however the issue is this is my DD and as of right now I cannot drive it at all. Also I have not had an alignment performed after the steering rack replacement, could that cause something like this? Thank you all for any advice you can give.

Top shock mounts will create all kinds of popping and creaking noises when they go bad. I replaced mine recently because of the "floating and creaking"..used the 034 street density mounts and they work great.

The other issue you have is the CV joint. If the CV is knocking you need to replace it..a new boot will not be enough.

You can see the collapsed shock mounts in the picture on the left. I did the shocks too..while I'm in there..

listen to Rusty, new shock mounts and cv axle are in order and an alignment after all of that

heads up, the will transfer a lot of noise into the frame. but your steering will be much crisper and more precise
