Default Cam Pulley

I don't know if this actually posted earlier, but I need to get the cam pulley off to do the lifters and the timing belt. I know the timing is off because I already spun the cam gear...****! So how do you get that bugger off! When I re-install it, is there a way to line it back up on the cam? Also do I have to worry about the dist. gear? All and any info is appreciated here. This is my first "big job" I've ever had to do on the Audi. Not bad at 275,000 miles. I think I'm gonna mess something up here so any info...TIA

Default set crank to "0" at the flywheel, take off cam and set it 1st cylinder

both lobes face up, should sit nicely and naturally, tighten down cam and line up key/slot whatever you got on the sprocket/cam.

tighten timing belt and line up distributer rotor on the slot on the distributer body.

hand crank for clearance, finish it up

So how do I get the cam pulley off? I want to replace the seal there. I also need to remove the water pump but that damn shield is in the way. I'm also intimidated by the big nasty bolt on the crankshaft pulley....

Default i use long screwdriver to holt the pulley to the valve cover or anywhere i can stick it to

crank pulley is tough, might need to ask miktip on how he locked the flywheel with the starter bolt.

cam cover is real easy

Default best bet is get air grinder and grind the nub down with crank pulley off

never have to drop crank pulley again

Default Timing belt

I think i'm leaving the t- belt on....it only has about 25,000 miles on it. I was cleaning the front of the engine off using Simple Green cleaner and the belt got soaked a few times in the process. I wiped it off afterwards, but now I'm paranoid about that stuff harming the belt. I figure these belt are made to withstand that stuff. dunno. you think she's alright. Im leaving the belt on and replacing everything except that tonight. I missed British Car day in Columbus now it looks like I may miss this weekend one in Cincinnati and I needed parts for the TR7. damn German bitch! Not my girl! My car! Whats the amt of time it should take me to put lifters in and the timing ,water pump, etc.? Oh and by the way the steering pump, tensioner, were all fine. After everything, the alternator bearings are shot (3 years old)...LOL how much money and time did I spend? Well baptism by fire baby!!! Lesson learned. next time I'll by an automotive stethiscope.
