Default Coupe window regulator - "worm gear" upgrade?

Hello, For the second time in a few years now my drivers side coupe window regulator has failed. First time it was the cables, now a pulley has broke (and taken out the cable with it).

Searching the forum revealed the following post:

https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/msgs/2436.phtml

I'm interested in the "work gear" upgrade. I can't tell from the post if the poster is referring to the complete replacement of the coupe window regulator with a B4 unit, or using parts from the B4 regulator to upgrade/repair the coupe unit.

Can anyone who has performed this upgrade please elaborate?

Thanks,

Default & further; can the window lift cables & pulleys be ...

...eliminated altogether by their replacement with another type of lift mechanism?

I've not been able to find much info either. Clearly Miktip's post says "as they use no cable".

Which is the "worm" he's refering to? The worm-gear in the aluminum gear-box; or the fuzzy worm in the gold tube in the link below?

That motor & gear-box swap idea only addresses failure of those components, & not to the cables & pulleys of the actual Coupe door window lifting mechanism vs. the worm(?) drive type lift mechanism in the link's photos which remind me of the B3 Sedan mechanisms (no cables & pulleys).

I've now seen a couple of ref's to 4000 worm-drive winders, but none to B4's or 3's, nor to re-fitting this idea to the 90 (B3) Coupe. Was Miktip talking Coupe GT or B3 Coupe?

Found these cable P/N's...

"you only need the Bowden cable assembly which is about £16 from the stealers.
(P/N: 895 837 725 B (left side), 895 837 726 B (right side)."

Default I've E-mailed MikTip...

to see if he can elaborate on his repair/upgrade solution. I'll let you know what he has to say.

I gathered it used B4 sedan components in conjunction with the B4 regulator to replace or eliminate the common failure parts of the Coupe regulator. I'm hoping that means the cable/pulley system. We'll see what MikTip has to say...

BTW my wife's coupe is also Lago blue. Great color!

Default MikTip was referring to a '86 coupe...

not a '90/'91. Damn, I guess I got so excited about the prospect of a work around for the damn Coupe regulator issues I didn't read the fine print...
