Crankshaft Locking
I have a 98 cabriolet with the 2.8l 12v . I am just about ready to put the timing belt back in and need to know where the crankshaft locking pin goes.I have done many 30v 2.8l and the location is different. I have done a search. I see a place on the drivers side by the motor mount . It has a ten mm bolt and I think it is the crankshaft position sensor. I just want to make sure before I pull it out. Thanks for any help

This German fellow has a video on changing the timing belt..and even though it is an A6-C4 the engine is about the same and the process is exactly like your Cabriolet.
He made a big camshaft holding tool and must remove the power steering pump..the tool we have here in North America you do not need to do this. He uses the crank pin TDC tool too.
The TDC lock is inserted down on the bottom left side of the block by removing a sensor..and on the Cabriolet it is a tight fit down there..some will use the TDC mark on the crankshaft..then remove the crank pulley..then check to be sure the crankshaft did not move when the belt is installed. Fiddly..Take a look and see if this helps?
