Default Ignition switch finally gave, luck i had 2 guys push the car while I poped the clutch

I have abou2 150 miles to home, is there a trick of restarting(turning the starter over) without pushing the car by chance?

I will order the OEM ONE FROM audi dealer this weekend online.

I just wanted to know if there were any short cuts instead of pushing or pullying the car to start it since its a Quattro 5 speed manual.

Thanks. Duane, MI

Only if you are on a hill or many guys push you fast enough to pop the clutch.

gowestyautoparts has the OEM genuine switch for 16.25

GAP is 28+10 shipping.

Figured I'd relay that along, toss in some consumables and get free shipping or heck, buy a spare for that price.

Wow, $16.25 is real cheap for a Audi Gem one!! I figured $36.00 at the dealer online,

Thanks, I knew I was going to have to replace it pretty soon.

Have a safe Holiday Weekend, Duane

Likewise to you, Glad I could help and maybe save a fellow member some $$.
Almost a two for one with that price plus gowesty has by far the lowest price on OEM oil filters I have seen anywhere else.
Heck, they beat AZ in just about every part I have ever looked up.

Also a lubromoly dealer, if you have the 4 digit number they most likely have it.

Example: 2043 for the 5L of M0S2 oil for $24.

Well, I changed out the broken switch, guess what no start, is their a fuse? On the american cars there usually one that's incline that will melt down. Other than that I fried the solenoid because I was turning the key back just a hair because the switch broke 2 weeks prior to this...

Please let know, I do have a extra starter complete on hand

Thanks Fellow Audi Members

Just curious but did you check your ground strap? When my starter went out in a parking lot the real reason was not the starter itself but the braided copper ground strap dry rotted and broke!
I had a new starter put in but technically the internals were fine but the strap itself was not replaceable.

Not yet, but I do think I fried it I knew I should of just took 30minutes and ordered and changed that switch a month a few weeks ago when it first broke. I guess I like to work the hard way

I have read that this has happen to many in the past, I had to turn the key manually counter clockwise everytime I started the car for the past few weeks, so the switch probably didn't respond no more, as I couldn't here it either grind.

Yes, I will double check, VW had that braided strap, mine looked real clean and solid when I put the motor back in last Fall.

At least I have a spare Starter and know the procedure real well
