Default fuel leak

1995 90 has a fuel leak on fuel line that is sitting higher than than other line near fuel railings.Looks to be leaking where line meets braided stainless piece of line.I have heard that this is common problem with these cars.I can only find complete 3 lines from dealer for about $400.Does it make sense to get used ones since this is common issue? Is it possible to put some fuel line hose over narrow line and much wider stainless line?I have never worked on fuel lines beforeso any advice is helpfull.

Default The fix for this problem is either expensive or cheap...

I have been through (last year) this issue. What happens is with the braided line the crimped fitting that attaches at the hardline begins to loose its tension and will **** fuel.

Your options are:

1) Buy a complete new pipe run from tank to fuel rail.. I'm sure this is $400 or more from Dealer and associated parts suppliers.

option #2

Pull off the original braided lines. Buy a METRIC fuel-line flaring tool and find the approriate METRIC high pressure hose fittings so as to allow you to couple at the hardline and at the fuel rail. Go to a high-pressure hose manufacturer and have them "build" you a length of hose to replace the OE braided lines that you just took off. Now you have the approrpriate fittings at either end and replacement hose. This will solve your problems and make the system more like that of a 20v B3q or COupeQuattro. I don't know why Audi didn't do this for B4's in the first place... it's a HUGE folly on their part IMHO.
