Heater Core How-To

i want to thank you for this write-up. i'm in the middle of replacing the heater core on a 1993 audi 90 quattro v6 and there are a few slight differences but it's close enough to be easy to follow.
also, i want to point out that the factory heater core has plastic endcaps and connector pipes which are prone to failure. there is an updated all-metal heater core available from the factory which fits the vw passat and also the audi 90. part number is 8d1--819-031c and sells for $200 on amazon -well worth it if you'd like to never have to replace this part again! link here:
