My car is pissing me off! Halp! Electrical???
Started my '91 90 this morning. The dummy lights for brake, parking brake, anti-lock and battery stayed on. This has happened once or twice before, but when I turned off and restarted, they would go off. Not this time. Also, the auto-check "battery" light came on while I was driving, and when I went to close my sunroof,it was WAY slow. Well, I knew the battery was due for replacement anyway, so I just got a new battery and put that in. Hmmm.....the dummy lights are still on and looking at my voltage gauge, it reads under 10 amps (or whatever it is). Normally around 13-14 mark. So, are these related - lights and voltage? Is my alternator shot or regulator or whatever....???? Aargh! Thanks, guys..

Sounds like the alternator.
First thing to do would be to check the alternator belt to see if it is loose or broken.
Next you would want to check the brushes on the alternator and replace if they are very worn.
Steps #1 and #2 are very cheap (less than $10 each)
Finally you would want to replace the alternator. Since this is not a cheap fix like 1 or 2, you should probably take the car to a shop to get the alternator tested before replacing it.

Thanks guys. I know a buddy who works at an electrical shop.
He said to bring the alternator in and he'll check it and rebuild if necessary. Think this is related to the gauge problem????? Or is that my ignition switch?

Okay, I'm a DA - I went back and did some searching...Hey JP Caddy!
JP Caddy - sounds like you had the same problem 8/21/2002. Least I know that's also affecting my dummy lights.

same thing happened to me...
my car died, so I got a new battery because the check battery light also came on, the same lights that you mentioned also worked so I was thinking it was the alternator. Turns out a belt was broken I forget witch belt it was, but you should check it out because I didnt even think to check that and it was only 9 dollars for a new belt
