My friends car just went around a corner made a huge bang and dumped it's ATF...
 

It has been having problems shifting up. The ATF was full up. What could (most likely) have happened?

No really, what is this imfamous car? I can't tell you how many planetary sets I've seen blown up on "other" kinds of cars (Ford AOD, Chrysler). As the clutch packs wear (shifting probs) it puts stress on the planetaries (hence, the bang) Not on an Audi, despite all the mishaps of the Audi 3SP AT (also set up different). Need more info.
