New Audi Owner... looking for swap info

<center><img src="http://www.pittspeed.com/uploaded/newaudi.jpg"></center><p>Hello Everyone,

I've owned vw's all my life to this point... this will be my first audi... I had found out that my girlfriend has an old audi 80 or 90 stashed away in her fathers barn for a couple years now. It's the quattro model and i believe it's a 1990. I think it's an audi 80, but i'm going to have to confirm. It does has the NA 5cy motor and quattro.

I would like to see this as a winter project / driver into a rally car for fun. I am curious as to what would bolt up to the tranny vw-wise. I currently own a 16v turbo that I am building for an ongoing project... I am wondering if a vw 8v block will bolt up to that tranny?

Basically I'm clueless on the 5cy motors and have no idea what i'm about to get into. I will confirm the model and year, but I will not be recieving this car until the start of next month.

I hope that someone can direct me to some info.

Thanks

here is a picture of the car i snapped when i first discovered it...

yeah... just confirmed it's a 1988 80 quattro

it's pretty damn clean... i'll be honored to tear into it and make it something fun. :)

The non-quattro '88-'90 models actually used a 8V VW block...

...I'd imagine if you swapped the engine mounts/ECU/wiring harness you could swap in a 8V (in Europe you could get a quattro model with 8 or 16V engines - not in the US/Canada though).

Re: The non-quattro '88-'90 models actually used a 8V VW block...

thansk!

what i'm wondering is how the tranny's are in this car... what i'd like to do is have a turbo'd car when it's all said and done.

question is, what motor should i attempt?

should i go 16v turbo motor like i have now? and use the knowledge i have in this motor to help me adapt it to the 5cy tranny? i'd probably be running megasquirt or some sort of standalone, i would assume.

or do i attempt to find a 10v or 20v turbo motor from an audi? i'm jsut lost when it comes to these, to the point that i dont even know what models (years and models) came with the turbo motors or what i'd need... i'd asusme i can drop in a turbo'd audi motor onto the current 5cy setup, if i fin a 5cy turbo motor and ecu?

Sorry guys, i'm jsut trying to get my bearings and figure out how this forum works! !

I'd LOVE to see a 16vT in a old quattro.

well so far that's the gameplan.... i just wanted to see if any guys out there knew anything beyond my limited knowledge taht just will not work...

i gotta get the car before i can learn... but with as many 8v / 16v parts, i'm sure i can make a beast... at least i'm hoping.

thanks guys!

going to search for some info...
