Default Oil leak under car...oil all over the oil pan no where else

Have a slight oil leak. Keeping an eye on it and it doesn't need much topping up in between oil changes but annoying non the less. Just the pan gasket?? Is there a common problem with the 2.8 12V leaking oil that I am not aware of? Any ideas?

Also noticed a heavy drip stain from the filter housing...could it be just dripping from there and blowing all over the pan???

Default LOL :-)

i cant tell if your upper oil pans is leaking or not, but yeas, its not uncommon for the oil pan to leak. if it's the upper, you have to drop your subframe, but its worth it, if its just the lover, its an hour job, and thats with a smoke brake in between :-) you also have a gasket between the upper oil pan and the oil cooler, so that may be leaking and thats why you are getting a residue on the oil cooler. So clean the oil soaked areas first, and then just pay attention to where the oil leaks are coming from and go from there.
P.s. upper oil pan has a gasket between the block and the oil pan, same story with the lower oil pan and the upper. i used D-176-404-A2 on my cars and it seams to work just fine, someone may have something against that stuff, but thats what all the new VW/Audi are using on their oil pans

Thanks for the diagnosis...I will clean it all up and check it after my 2 hour commute to work. Should be able to see after that as it leaks very slow. Coolant leak...yes upper rad hose is being changed as well....it leaks on the bottom side and drips down over everything.

D-176-404-A2?? Is that a silicone sealant or the gasket number?

Default thats the sealant

DO NOT use regular silicone! i repeat DO NOT use regular silicone or anything you get from auto zone or a place like that!!!! if you are not using a regular gasket, use the stuff that i gave you, NOTHING ELSE!!! You can get it at a VW/audi dealer for like $30 or just order a set of gaskets ;-)
