Default Replaced odometer gear but odometer still isn't working

I had 2 CQ's and the odometer died in one the day before I sold it. So, I stole the odometer gear out of my other car to get the one I was selling working before the sale. The gear swap worked fine in the car I sold and it drove away with a functioning odometer.

The problem is that when I insalled the new replacement gear I ordered in the CQ I still have the odometer doesn't work. I double and triple checked the installation and it all looks correct. There is only one way to install the new gear so I can't get it in upside down.

Does anyone know of anything else I could have messed up to keep the odometer from working?

Default It could be the electric motor.....

of the odo, which turns the gears?

What, year & model Audi does the instrument cluster go into?

I may have several replacements....

Default It would be very strange that a good motor would go out when changing gears

The cluster is for a 1991 CQ and it was always working. I took the gear out of it to fix another CQ cluster. Then put a replacement gear back in. It was never broken until now. I'll check the motor, but I suspect something else.
