Seeing all the happenings over the past few days, how safe are those of us with zero-airbag'd b3s?

Depends, as they tell us that any airbag over 10 years old might not work properly anyway...
or is it 5? I thought it was 10, so as my CQ is now almost 19 years old, and rarely leaves the garage, and I always wear my seatbelt, and the thing is a tank.... I feel pretty safe.

Depends... what're you planning on hitting... or how do you want to be hit?
Let me put it this way... I've rolled a 90q with no interior (ie... no headliner for extra padding)... and suffered only a slight bump on my head. Slight enough that I didn't feel it the next day, and no bleeding.
It was totalled... but still driveable enough that I drove 200+km home in it. hahaha.
The cars are pretty well built. Ya, no air bags, but a lot of other cool stuff... like lightweight high strength alloy door bars. They weigh nothing, but are super strong, and brace between the openings in the doorframe (one of the strongest spots, because of all the various pieces of metal coming together).
I prefer a 20yo car with no airbags over a 15yo car with questionable airbags.
Sister rear-ended a truck in a '95 Ford Escort... shmuched up the passenger front corner... but no airbags went off. Car couldn't be driven because the frame bent into the pulleys on the engine, and cracked the radiator. (You can see that one if you come to the farm in a few weeks).
