SHOULD I SCRAP IT CLEVER PEOPLE PLEASE HELP
HELP HELP HELP
I have a 1993 Audi 80 Cabriolet 20 e 8V and its starting to get to me
The car was running like a dream until i revved her hard there was a bang and found that the timing belt had jumped a cog on the distributor pulley the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys stayed in time phew
I retimed the engine which aint easy fitted a new cambelt and the engine started but run like a pig un plug the air flow meter and she runs much smoother reconnect the meter and she chugs to a stop
borrowed a known good one and the fault is still there
Questions
1 I have the radiator out at the moment would not having Any water in the system cause this problem
2 All that happened was the timing went out why should this effect the airflow meter
3 would me not setting the timing correctly cause this issue? do i need to recheck it
4 would the ECU be at Fault
5 any sensor on the engine that could be at fault
6 Any thing i have missed
This is such a simple engine there cant be much wrong but im loosing the plot

However lots of VW/Audi cars did get your engine. My first guess would be the cam timing, when the belt :slipped" bent some valves. Even thought they appear to be "in time" right now..get a compression gauge and verify you have good compression.
