Swapin in a new aftermarket alarm

I have a aftermarket alarm in my 90 right now and am getting fed up with the transmiter as it is gettin old and crap. Was wondering how how hard it would be to swap in a new unit, do they all use the same basic inputs outputs or are they drasticley different?

My unit (after some depate/research/confusion) is deemed to be a Crimestopper. It is one of the "unbranded" models they sold, I believe Azeem had one as well?

The old Audi alarm will still work as well if you put the key in the door and turn to the right. The IR transmitter does not work for the Audi alarm anymore as the aftermarket alarm's IR does work to arm the aftermarket system. There is only one issue with this alarm setup....The first time you use your car after you remove the battery, the aftermarket alarm will only lock and unlock the drivers door UNTIL you arm and disarm the old Audi alarm with the key, then the aftermakket will lock and unlock all doors.

Brdman..what model # was your Crimstopper?

well that one disables some things

the stock one only unlocks the doors. Hard....eh.......time consuming sure. You gotta wire up each terminal to cerain systems. You can be in for a butt load of piping.

agreed, but all wires in are run as there is a existing aftermarket alarm....

I was wondering more along thelinesof how easy it would to be to remove old ECU or brain of aftermarket alarm unit and wire a new ECU into the exzisting wireing?

oh, no idea

I plan to find out this spring :)

why bother? Ever had problems with somebody trying to break in, looking funny at your car???

Its a 10+ years old audi that not too many people know about, plus why bother stealin' when you can buy one for $2K.

IMO, its just not worth the hassle.

I like the keyless locking

CvTech 12-17-2005 05:23 PM

its funny to see people get into my AT and cannot even put the car in gear!

most people have no clue what that car is besides the rings on it. The only thing I want is an RF door unlock system. That IR sucks>@

cheap keyless system couldn't be easier to install. go for it.

CvTech 12-17-2005 05:32 PM

oh I'm sure

we technical have keyless entry, just the IR system is the suxor. I just want to upgrade to a system that 1. has a decent range RF antenna and then 2. its remote contents can fit into with little modification my switchblade key. You have which CrimeStopper unit?

I laugh at that myself everytime it happens!
