Default I certainly wonder about their R&D as well as QA claims

If you look at my engine bay, under the battery tray, the left side tie rod is a Meyle. It was replaced the same weekend I put my winter tires on this year. This was already several weeks into the beginning of winter.
I took my car off the road a little over a month ago to begin this swap.
Total time on the road: 2.5 months...
you can not see it in the pictures, but the jam nuts, and threads are completely covered in clumpy rust. I'm sure it's mostly surface, but these tie rods look worse than the completely seized and wasted ones I removed.
Also look at the right side, this was replaced at the same time, but a different known good brand. (I had a friend with a VAG parts store, and I just took what was in stock. Didn't want to cause extra work for next to free parts)
Anyway, this is my testimonial contribution.

Default Next time

you buy a good 'ol American product by Hewlett Packard or Compaq. Check the serial number. If it begins with a CN..... you guessed it. And you won't find "Made in China" anywhere in bold print either. Hmmm...?

But not all Chinese parts are bad. The GM 3.8 has a plastic water inlet on the block that breaks and if you don't catch it fast enough, you cook the motor. The OEM replcement is also plastic. But if you go to your local discount parts warehouse and buy a Chinese part, it's steel and will last the life of the car. Go figure...

Default boycott them

Seems logical then if you want to keep your good ol 90 running to avoid these parts.

I would like to know how german law allows meyle to stamp them "germany" when that clearly is not the case? that is consumer fraud.

even stating they are "made of foreign parts" would be more truthful.

Atleast the febi/bilstein ignition switch clearly says "made in china" and it was clearly sent back for a refund.

for most quattro suspension parts its LEMFOERDER or nothing for OE or step up to the Mance products and be done with it.

funny the name kinda should give it away, meyle sounds like malay, IE malaysia which I am surprised these are not made, damn near every thing else is.

example:

VWW073482 GKN/LOEBRO Front C.V. Joint & Boot Kit
Outer
OUTER JOINT KIT Available 152.30
VWW086237 MEYLE Front C.V. Joint & Boot Kit
Inner
INNER JOINT KIT Available 50.11

1/3rd the price....its for a reason and not just a "good deal".

Default online becomes harder

its going to get to the point in order to be certain your getting a quality part your going to have to hit the dealer and actually see the box and examine it before you buy it for top rate.

I doubt any dealership will let you fondle their parts for clues then leave empty handed, they won't find that very amusing.

that or sites like sierra trading post which lists the country on every product they sell, OE online retailers could do the same but probably well never take the time and effort to do so.

Default MEYLE Germany-EU-Turkey-Taiwan- China

MEYLE owns 2 different factories, one in Turkey, the suspension parts factory and one in Taiwan, the rubber to metal factory.
They attain some of their products from China but the bulk of their steering and suspension products and especially their "HD"
or Heavy Duty product line comes from their own factories in Turkey and Taiwan. I would say that probably 10 to 15% of the products that they market come from Germany the rest from other countries including China, Spain and Italy. Prior to 2002 they would just source, rebox and ship. Since 2002 they have their own engineering team which were attained from different Germany OE manufacturing plants. The HD line was created to redesign products that were produced in OE manufacturing facilities that were causing early failures in suspension and steering products on new BMW, AUDI, VW, MERCEDES, SAAB and VOLVO cars, some which were major complaints while the vehicles were still in warranty. For example the BMW E36 & E46 ball joints and the Audi A4 & VW Passat front control arms and tie rod end.

MEYLE is an aftermarket supplier and has not produced original equipment (1st installation) for any car line. When Wulf Gaertner Autoparts AG which was a long time distributor of OEM manufactured products purchased MEYLE Products from its original owner in 1996 the attained the rights to the logo that is currently used which says in a circle "MEYLE GERMANY' with a strange design in the middle which no one has been able to tell me what it means. The thing is that U.S. Customs requires that all products have a marking on the package of the country of origin so the end user and know where the part came from and when customs decides to inspect a ship that the correct customs charges are levied for importation.

Of course MEYLE is not the only company that has been forced to purchase from Far East markets to remain competitive and little by little we will find out that products are made in other countries that we believed, or believed in. I myself, an American of Italian and Spanish decent worked in a Daimler Benz manufacturing plant in Unterturkheim, Germany. 98% of the my assembly line team were from Turkey or Yugoslavia but it was still considered German Car. I like to say as long as the factory and the quality control are of the state of the art you could have a quality product produced on the Moon. The quality is a reflection of the inner workings and foundation of the technology of the company and even OE manufacturing companies in Germany will have some product issues and at this time there are more quality issues from all companies that source products from China. But China just like Japan in the 60's and 70's must have a growth period where it will address its issues and almost perfect its quality. Just today I requested some information on an ignition coil due to some issues in the past with a certain VW coil and the response was as follows:
"Yes, this part is made in China and we sell many different ignition coils in large quantities. Only a limited amount of these items have caused some trouble. We are always working on improving these parts".
I personally know what lengths MEYLE will go through to inspect failures and redesign if necessary problem products. This is a very expensive decision to handle returns and technically inspect failed products produced or marketed by MEYLE and they are dedicated to perfecting there products no matter what the cost or country of origin is. Feel free to contact me when you have a product issue, I would appreciate it and so would MEYLE and other users of MEYLE products.
