Default turn signals / hazard lights don't work

Proud owner of 1988 90 Quattro. This is a daily driver, and I noticed driving to work today that the turn signals stopped working. I tried the hazard lights and they cam on a split second and went out. I checked out all the lights, and they all illuminate. I also replaced the fuse, but no luck. There must be a turn signal relay, but I do not know where it is located. I am not really sure if that is the problem or not. Never experienced any electrical problems with the stalk assembly on the steering column. Any suggestions?? Still a newbie at figuring this car out, and I cannot afford the Bentley manual, so I am flying blind here! Thanks!

Check for the relay behind the panel that is underneath the driver's side dash

if the connector to the hazard switch comes off, none of it works.

Thanks for all the help, it took a while and some profanity, but I found the relay... it is located under the dash, below the instrument cluster assembly (left hand side of the assembly). The relay is clipped on to the opposite side of the lower portion of the dash panel. The aux relay panel for this car does not contain a relay for the hazard / turn signal. I luck out at last attempt with a flash light and found it!
