VCDS with "pre-OBDII" (OBD-1) diagnostics?
Hey,
So the woman recently got an 8P A3 s-line 2008, and for that I'm trying to get the ross-tech vcds system to plug into my laptop. On the ross-tech site there's mention of the "2x2 adapter for pre-OBD2 cars." Having never being able to run the 'self diagnostic' mode on my 1990 90 20v, I was never able to clear the CEL, despite pulling and fixing blinking light codes.
My question is this; is it worth it to pay an extra $100 for the next-best cable on top of $50 for the 2x2 adapter, for when I'm rebuilding my 7A 20v this spring/summer.
Also does anybody have experience with VCDS otherwise? Real-time diagnostics via OBD2 just seems like rocket-surgery to my feeble "pre-OBD2" brain...

I have the VCDS with several older Audi cars..all OBD2..if I had the need I would get the 2x2, if you plan on keeping the car.
OBD1 will not have all the features of OBD2..but better than looking for blink codes.
The Ross Tech is easy to use..well..kinda easy..I'm still on the learning curve.

Good news everybody!
My VCDS has shipped today, should get it in about a week! Currently it's for working on the woman's 8P A3 3.2, but soon I'll also have the 2x2 adapter, and will be able to run the OBD1 self diagnostic mode on the 90!!! Hopefully.
This will come in handy for my 20v rebuild
