Default UK: Audi A1 Tail light harness burned?

Hi all,

I have noticed that the Audi A1 was not working, upon closer inspection it appears that one of the connectors to the light assembly has burnt quite severely. Can anybody advise me on where I can source a new harness which will plug into the light assembly. I know I can get the light assembly part from many sites like ebay, but am struggling to locate the correct connector plug.

I called my car repairmen. He immediately recognized the problem (there must be hundreds of A1s with burned rear light connectors). His quick and cheap solution: solder a wire directly to the metal plate on the printboard.
1) Open the taillight
2) Solder the wire to the affected metal plate at the spot where the wire can squeeze between the housing and the printboard.
3) Cut the damaged car wire from the connector harness
4) Attach a male connector to the printboard wire
5) Attach a female connector to the car wire
6) Reassemble everything (use some electrical tape to ensure the connectors will not touch the car's body

Separate wire connection to avoid having to replace the complete connector.

Cost: 5 usd
Materials: solder iron and cable connector

Time: dissassemble (10min) + solder (5min) + attaching connectors (5min) + reassemble (10min) = 30min

Good luck,

Kris

The plate has several sections but the brown one is the grounding wire. The grounding plate covers the whole taillight module and has the most exposed surface. You can check with voltage/resistance meter to ensure you are soldering to the correct plate.
