5,000 miles or 6 months?
I don't put many miles on my cars each year, which seems to have my dealer at odds with the maintenance schedule in my book. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this.
I bought my 2006 A3 six months ago this week. It now has 2,400 miles on it. The manual says to have the first service done at 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. Since it's a 2006 model, the maintenance is free during the warranty period.
I called my dealer's service department to make the appointment, and he asked how many miles were on it. When I told him, he said that was too few miles to do the service "because you're supposed to leave the break-in oil in the engine for the full 5,000 miles".
I told him that wasn't what my manual says, and he said the manual was wrong. I told him that I was afraid that if I didn't follow the manual and later had a warranty claim, it might be denied because I hadn't followed the maintenance schedule. He offered to check with the dealer's "warranty clerk" who would be in the next day. I said okay and he agreed to call me.
He called today and said the warranty clerk had told him that if the mileage was less than 5,000, the service shouldn't be done until 9 months. He said that if they did the service and submitted the claim to Audi, Audi wouldn't pay them for it. I again mentioned my worry about the warranty and asked if he could give me something from the warranty clerk in writing. He said he would have it sent to me right away.
While I'm waiting to see what they'll send, does anyone here know anything about this? Thanks.

Actually, they are right about the break-in oil...but denying the service...seems like....
something is up there...I personally would wait for 5k on the oil, but get a written letter from the service manager with their "policy" statement on it so you can defend yourself if AOA denies a claim.

i tried to get the 15k service done at 13.5k and was told that the new policy explicitly states
i must wait until 15,000.00 miles for complimentary service.
while i was there a technician walked in with a 15k service order that was just denied by AoA.. the car had ~14800 miles

How can they make a "new policy"; my USA Warranty says...
that Audi Advantage covers "all manufacturer required regularly scheduled maintenance services within the coverage period. These services, detailed in your 2006 Audi Maintenance booklet, will be completed free of charge."
My Maintenance booklet says the first scheduled service is at "5,000 miles or 6 months after delivery, whichever comes first."
This is bull****.
