Extended Warranty?

Extended Warranty?
OK, so it looks like Audi is going to do WAY the right thing by me and pay for my new engine rebuild on my 2007 A3 even though "officially" out of warranty (on years, nowhere close on miles). Am waiting on the final word but this would be a HUGE loyalty gesture if it comes to pass. That being the case, once my engine is rebuilt, am definitely looking into buying an extended warranty just for peace of mind going forward since, with my car having fewer than 40k miles, I'll plan on keeping it awhile. Anyone else purchased an extended warranty (for their A3)? Costs? Recommendations?
many thanks all.

That is cool of them, of course, it looks like a freak accident, but it is still a heavy expense on their part. And I assume the engine will be warranted for 6 months to a year after that.
I got my car warranted through Geico's insurance. New car insurance came with extended warranty, of course, I had to keep full coverage with them until the warranty expired and still had a $250 deductable. Never used it though. Had some fan problem in the middle of winter, causing fogging on windshield, and though it definitely would cost less than $250 to fix, looked at my options, including DIY, but eventually it started spinning on the start of my long ski trip. Must have been the garbage can cover that went under the car not long before it stopped working.

I bought the Platinum Warranty from Audi with the car brand new. It paid for itself ($1,600), but also realized that in some cases - like my master/slave and throw bearing fiasco, it's up to the Service Manager at the dealer to make a call. Just be sure to read the fine print.
