Gearbox whine/rattle HELP!
Hi guys,
I’m not sure I’m in the right place but here’s my story!
My 2010 Audi A3 has a gearbox (code LNY) whine/rattle when accelerating AND decelerating in all gears. The problem occurs about 70% of the time and is sometimes a loud whining noise, sometimes a rattling noise and sometimes a combination of the two.
Now, a local Audi dealer has looked at this and changed the bearings, synchros, diff and clutch but the problem is still EXACTLY the same. Quite how they let it go out the door saying it’s fixed is beyond me!!!
I’m desperate to try and find an answer to this problem because they’ve had my car for about 7 months collectively and it’s driving me nuts!
If anybody has any ideas of what this might be please help!!

Hey findalex,
I've spoken to the mechanic that carried out the work and he has said he mentioned to his superiors (while the gearbox was on the workbench) that the input and output shafts were damaged, but it “wasn’t on their radar” so I didn’t get told about it.
Now theyre trying to charge me £1,800 to split the gearbox again to install the shafts and replace the new bearings because they will now be damaged.
Something seriously wrong with this dealer!
Thanks for for the reply bud
