Default Help! Can’t get new expansion valve seated.

So I’ve spent the past couple weeks working to fix the AC on my 07 A3 FSI. It’s been one issue after another, and I thought I had finally got it all together when the system can’t even get down to vacuum with the pump running. I confirmed it’s the expansion valve.

I can’t seem to get it to seat properly. It’s like the bottom tube doesn’t go in all the way. Do the O rings go into the valve, or onto the evaporator tubes? I’ve tried in the valve, but can seem to get the bolts to catch thread. I’ve tried on the tubes, but it seems the bottom tube doesn’t go in far enough to seat the O ring against the flange on the tube.

Anyone have any advice on getting it back in correctly?

Thanks!!

The o-rings should fit either way, but having them on the tube first is probably easier to install. One thing you might want to double-check is the size of the o-rings (use only new ones). Of course, you want to make sure the new expansion valve is the exact size/diameter as the old ones as well.

BTW, don't forget to get a new dryer if you haven't already.
