Default K&N Air Filter in '06 2.0T A3

Newbie here, just picked up a K&N air filter for my A3. Couple questions, 1. Is it even worth installing or was I mis-informed? 2. Any special tools needed to install it?

thanks a lot,
Mark

Default Some people have said that it had worse airflow than stock...

Default I dunno, they def flow better than stock, however the benefit is very minimal if any.

The definitely have worse filtration than stock and less dust-holding capacity than stock.

Is the A3 limited by the filter? Anyone ever dyno one with no filter? NA and NB Miatas cannot pull any more air through with no filter, thus K&N is not a performance mod.

I just installed a K&N filter in mine (after I finally got the got@#@% engine cover up). I think the K&N filter will provide better air flow to the engine. The spacing between the channels on the stock filter is much narrower than the channels on the K&N filter. As far as performance enhancement goes, I'm not sure; its too early for me to tell.

Note: It was a GREAT pain in the *** to change out the air filter in this car compared to the Honda Civic Cpe I once owned.

Story Time: When I picked up the K&N filter from the parts store I was somewhat taken aback by the size of it. The clerk said to me, "Man, if there is one thing on a car that a person should easily know how to change out, its the air filter". After changing the air filter in the Audi A3, I wanted to go back to the parts store and smack that clerk in his mouth!

Default For those thinking about purchasing a K&N, read this . . .

You're sacrificing a lot for a very small improvement in flow.

http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm</a

Do a search on the A4 forums, then you will see the history of using a K&N on a Audi.
