Loss of power at 3.5k in higher gears

2007 Audi S3 8P

What would cause this problem, I can redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear but the rest, I lose power at about 3500rpm. Not ideal when overtaking!
Had the VAGCOM plugged in saying it was the N249 valve, had this replaced and still the same problem. I have the car booked into another garage next week for more faultfinding.

Come on...somebody must have a clue?

It's currently in the garage and nothing is showing on the diagnostics :-(. Does a coil pack always bring a code?
