So nice! I'd love to do that too. But I puss out and have no motivation

Craig3Q 08-27-2007 09:38 PM

Well, I don't know where my motivation came from lately. Usually I'm a lazy s.o.b.

Nicely done! Just found an A3 Euro light switch in inventory here...

which I would like to see go to good use. This is an A3 switch:

<b>A3 European Headlight Switch</b> (Automatic Headlights, Side Lights, Front and Rear Fog Lights and Coming-Home) - $85.07 each <b>(NOW $59 each)</b>

If you are interested email: <a href="mailto:contact@euro-audi-parts.com?subject=Europrice Inquiry">contact@euro-audi-parts.com</a>.

Cheers,

Looks awesome. Is it difficult to add the rear fog and DRL functionalities to the US spec A3?

Does it involve reprogramming the VAG-COM mod?

absoluTT A3 08-28-2007 11:31 AM

Is this the one seen in the TT, with the matte aluminum accent that Craig3Q is showing?

Craig3Q 08-28-2007 11:33 AM

Yes, involves VAG-COM mod, at which time you choose 1 or 2 lamps for rear fog. I chose 1.

Len at oooo-a3 has details, and the most difficult part of changing out the switch is unhooking the wiring harness at 3 points.

When reading Len's description, note that there is one error: You remove the existing switch by setting the switch to 0 and then pushing IN (not pulling out as Len said), and while pushing in you turn switch slightly to the right to release the locking mechanism.

BTW: I got my TT switch at http://www.oempl.us/<ul><li><a href="http://oooo-a3.blogspot.com/2005/11/rear-fog-lights.html">http://oooo-a3.blogspot.com/2005/11/rear-fog-lights.html</a</li></ul>

absoluTT A3 08-28-2007 11:35 AM

It's not that bad, but you do need to use VAG-COM :-(

However, you may get lucky... Len said:

"The next step is to change the Central Electronics coding so that they are usable. A few people have reported that their cars were already coded this way (i.e. just plugging in the new switch was all they had to do), but that is not the norm. Decide whether you want one (driver's side) or two (both sides) rear fogs activated, and make the coding change using the steps described in my VAG-COM Coding Reference."<ul><li><a href="http://oooo-a3.blogspot.com/2005/11/rear-fog-lights.html">Len's rear fog light enabling mod</a></li></ul>

Craig3Q 08-28-2007 11:35 AM

One more thing: I did not add DRL, that was factory. I only added rear fog capability.

And I'm lucky to have a friend at work with the VAG-COM cable and software, and an Intel Mac laptop....

absoluTT A3 08-28-2007 11:37 AM

Craig, do you have bi-xenons?

If not, I'm hoping that the existence of the City Lights in the bi-xenon package may have helped bring along with it the pre-programming for the rear fogs. ;-)
