Navigation Installation 2008 A3 ??
I just purchased a 2008 A3 Titanium 6 Speed. The first thing I want to do is to install navigation. I have done a bit of searching and reading about doing the install and I have a few questions.
Is my 2008 'double DIN'? If not I will need to buy the adapter harness?
Is the install pretty straight forward on a 2008? Will much trim need to be removed? I looked for instructions on line but could only find instructions for older A3's and I wasn;t sure it they are the same.
Are there any units I should avoid? From what I have read I should stick with a US unit. Any units that are easier to install or ones that won't work?
Is the antenna easy to install? Where does it go?? Any instructions on this??
Anything else I should be considering or be aware of prior to buying a navigation unit???
Thanks for the help!!

I found this unit for sale. I assume it is an older unit?

Can anyone tell me the difference between older and newer units? What are the model number for the older and newer units??
Thanks

This thread on AudiForum has what you want. Note that the 2010 RNS-E supports SDHC cards (i.e. those with capacity > 4GB), whereas the earlier ones don't.
Euro units can be converted to US & vice versa -- the process is documented at AudiForum.

Thanks for the link to the list... I am checking our converted Euro units that the selles say will support all US functions.
Are there installation instructions available for my 2008 A3? I believe I am double DIN and installation is not that hard. Any challenge to locating a spot for the antenna?

Thank for the help!!

The current non-Nav headunits use the same connector as the RNS-E. You may have to move a pin or two however. www.audiforum.us has conversion threads. The big gotcha is that the newer headunits don't use the diversity antenna that the RNS-E expects so your radio reception may be spotty unless you install the antanna amplifiers, etc.

Mike,
I have done a lot of searching over on that forum and still cannot find instructions on the installation of navigation on my model year.
This is the first that I have heard about the radio issues.
Thanks
If I install a 2008 RNS-E into my A3 there should be no radio issues, correct?
