OEM fix for PCV-related boost leaks
#21
Yes Home Depot is really known for their top quality auto parts...
Face it man you overreacted to the problem and did the homemade fix, instead of waiting for the proper solution from Vag. I cant wait to see if you get warrenty coverage if there's any future PCV issues, when the dealer gets a load of you hacking up your engine (well not you, the person you had do it) :P.

First off, the pipe was 'free'. It came with the car. I didn't go to the dealer and spend $40 for one. The 'upgraded OEM' PCV valve is claimed to fail as well. As we've seen already.
Since the PCV valve can leak enough to be significant *without* throwing a code, it won't show up when the dealer tech looks for it, therefore good luck getting it covered under warranty. If anyone insists on trying one of the 'upgraded' OEM PCV valves, they'll pay a lot more than $40 for it, closer to $60+ and it, too, will probably fail. I'm not saying it may not be a good solution. But with chipped cars, OEM 'upgraded' parts can still fail, look at the 'C' DV which fails like the 'B', even though it's the supposedly-better version.
Before I went with the PCV fix, that digitalhippie figured out is great. I was holding getting 1.5-2# less boost, and 5 less MPGs. NO issues, and don't expect any. For 17.50$ including shipping.
Cheers.
edit to add: The C is a better DV. I'm not arguing that. I bought it last week! And everyone with a chipped car should as well. It's best to have the better part.
My pcv fix is temporary, until the G is proven to work, and we know what it takes to make it right. Gawd. The G pcv could and should be better. I was only attempting to keep the public from spending $80-100+ for the new G + other items it requires... and then install it improperly, as the other person did on vortex. and until it's proven, people may not want to order it. I didn't mean to say it's claimed to fail. It's failed once, and it is prolly b/c the person didn't know what he was doing. Best bet, wait and see what Dave figures out with his G pcv. Since he has a boost gauge, stage2, and vag-com.
I spent <20$ on the fix, so I'm really not worried about my validating what I've done.

Um his valve didn't fail. Failing would imply that the valves broke and started to leak
boost into the crankcase.
It seems as if his issue is that one of the mating pieces was not perfectly flush and is leaking vacuum into ambient.
That has no implications as to the performance of the valve when used as it was intended. IIRC he is getting a new valve when it arrives (12/12k parts warranty) and will put that in.
