Test drove A3 2.0T yesterday & kind of dissapointed!

First off let me say I was impressed with certain aspects of the car. Interior, overall power, and smooth shifting transmission.

Things that I did not find appealing were the fact that there was a very noticeable amount (more than I remember in my 1.8t) of turbo lag off of the line. On top of that there was a tremendous amount of tire slippage, even with esp engaged. I tend to take off fast from a stop and squealing tires were what kind of killed it for me. Dont want to have to spend the extra $ for the 3.2q

What is the widest tire that guys here generally get away with running up front?

More turbo lag than 1.8?? First I've heard that.

235 width...You would eventually get used to the slip...Def not as much lag as my 1.8t

You can slip tires all the way to 3rd with the right mods. Just have to learn to modulate the throttle or throw in an LSD

The car you drove likely had Pirelli P6 or Contipro contacts - all season tires...

UHP summer -only tires make a big difference.

If DSG, drop in S mode, run performance tires

This engine has less turbo lag than my 2.7T

I have 225/40/18 and with both UHP and Max performance tires "unintended burnout" is minimal on flat, dry roads. Even with the Stage II Revo+DP. With the stock P6 tires it was much worse even without mods.

But yes, if you're coming from Quattro then FWD + 208 ft/lb will cause "squealing" that you're not used to.

Learning to drive the 2.0T DSG combo.

Firmly roll into the gas from a stop. Don't simply mindlessly smash the pedal. Instead with conviction get into the throttle to about 1/3 down, then floor it.

well stated. what settings are you running (revo)?

UncleNoName 01-27-2008 02:35 PM

stock stage II (7-9-7?) I forget.

i don't have intake or catback.
200 cell dp

tooo funny. your sig...

I was just cleaning some bird poo off my roof. I paused for a minute to stare at our submarine antenna, and thought... how odd that thing must look to non-vag owners... lol. I mean, we are used to it. first the sharkfin, now the submarine on audis.

Front tires slip more b/c the 2.0T has much more power than the 1.8T. LSD solves that.
