A3 MMI - Live Traffic Functionality
Evening
I'm in the process of purchasing a new 2015 Audi A3. As part of my discussion with the salesman, he told me that I would not need to renew my 4G subscription after the 6 month free trial expires and that I could use my connected phone to retrieve the internet data needed (traffic, weather, etc.). Is this true? In my research this evening, it seems to me that I will need a paid sub in order to not lose my traffic features. I can live without Google Earth view and Street view, but losing traffic is a bummer
Any insight to this?

IIRC you get a 4 year subscription to SiriusXM traffic as part of the Nav package. It has no connection to Audi Connect. SiriusXM traffic comes in on an FM frequency and the Nav package uses it to warn you of closed roads, slow traffic etc.
Audi Connect gets you online stuff like Google Maps and web access. If you're satisfied with using your phone for these you could let your Connect subscription lapse after the trial. You should still get traffic service from SiriusXM.

Yes it does. In my vehicles I keep the MMI Nav map at 4 miles per inch setting. This gives me a general overview of traffic before starting out. My experience is that there is a delay (15 minutes?) between worsening traffic and it appearing on the traffic map.
It is the most important option in my vehicles.
