Hi Everyone;

I have a 2016 S3 S-Tronic and whenever I'm coming to a full stop and gear is changing from 2nd to 1st (automatically in "D" mode), the cur hiccups pretty harsh! The whole car slightly (8-10%) shakes and you can hear the car is struggling with changing the gear. I pretty much had this problem for a year or so and always thought it is normal (I never owned an automatic car before).

It's like you have a manual car and forget to change the gear from 3rd or 2nd to 1st gear when coming to a stop. Is this a normal issue or should I take it to the dealer as it is still under warranty?

So I took the car to the dealership and they reset the systems for the gearbox and the problem was better for 1-2 weeks. Then after that the problem came back on and I took it to the dealership again.

After 2 days, they said they've drained the gearbox fluid and found some metal debris there which they do not know where are they coming from! So initially they just wanted to just put new fluid back and give me the car but Audi Canada told them that they have to change the whole transmission in my vehicle. So I'm looking for at least 1 week wait time with a Q5 loaner car (not bad) and the whole thing costs around $10,000, which is covered under warranty.

$10,000!!!! main reason why owning this car after warranty scares the bejeezus out of me.

To put things in perspective, that is about the same cost of depreciation on the first year of owning a new Audi. So, why would it scare you to own it pass warranty? You pay for it one way or another.

Hi, in ERWIN I found a TSB for A3 8V with those syntoms. Maybe it could help TSB. 2027884/16 it is in spanish but it explains that the delaer have to make some software update for DSG and also change the flying wheel. Let you in spanish, try translating in google please:

Intentar reproducir la reclamación del cliente (de acuerdo con la exposición del cliente) para
establecer una correspondencia exacta con esta información técnica de producto.
Las entradas de la memoria de incidencias en todas las unidades de control deberán haberse
procesado antes de proceder con otros pasos.
Se deberá descartar la existencia de otra medida (TPI/componentes/software, etc.) que resuelva esta
reclamación. En caso contrario, se producirá una nueva reparación. En este caso el fabricante se
reserva el derecho a rechazar la liquidación en garantía y a regularizar las piezas desmontadas.
Realizar un ajuste básico del cambio mediante las funciones guiadas. Acto seguido, durante el
recorrido de prueba se deberá comprobar si puede seguir reproduciéndose la reclamación. Para ello es
indispensable que en el informe de diagnosis se haya confirmado que el ajuste básico del cambio se ha
realizado correctamente.
Si se puede seguir reproduciendo la reclamación de cliente:
1. Sustituir el embrague múltiple (juego de reparación de servicio de posventa)
2. En caso necesario, se deberá realizar otra actualización del software de la unidad de control del
cambio.

Nota: En el MY16 se produjo un cambio a la 2ª generación de la unidad mecatrónica en el modelo de
vehículo 8V durante el año de modelos (semana 45/15). Es decir, si un vehículo tiene la versión de
software 06xx hasta 09xx, no será necesaria una actualización del software.

La actualización de software garantiza el correcto funcionamiento del embrague múltiple.
La causa de la reclamación no es el volante de inercia bimasa.
Es posible que la unidad de control del cambio ya tenga la versión de software actual a causa de una
actualización previa del software. En este caso no se requerirán más actualizaciones de software.

i can drive a car that depreciated. i cant drive a car that needs a new $10k transmission.

Not sure I understand your logic - You can't drive a car that needs a new $10k transmission regardless (whether it's under factory warranty or not). Driving a car that has factory warranty doesn't guarantee that your transmission won't fail.

i am afraid to own the s3 after warranty because if the transmission fails, i dont want to spend $10k to replace. If the transmission fails while i am under warranty, then i wont have to pay the $10k to fix it. what do you not get?

simply put:

• im NOT afraid to own the s3 while under warranty because the if the transmission fails (while under warranty), then it would get replaced under warranty with no out of pocket cost to me.
• i AM afraid to own the s3 when it is NOT under warranty anymore because if the transmission fails (while not under warranty), then i would have to pay $10k to fix it. what does any of this have to do with deprecation?

do you see why it would scare me to own this car after warranty? under warranty, repaired at no cost to me; not under warranty, repaired with all costs to me.

i guess i dont see how depreciation factors into me not wanting to pay $10k for a dsg transmission if it fails when the car is not under warranty anymore.
