another new S3 owner
Just got a black 2016 S3. Looking forward to chatting with some like-minded S3 owners. Sold my Subaru WRX to get it. No regrets, this S3 is everything my WRX was and more. Maybe a bit concerned about Audi's past reputation for reliability but it seems they have sorted that out. We'll see I guess.

Nice, this is my first Audi and I love it. I drove my buddies S4 which turned me on to the brand. I walked on the lot looking for a used S4 but then saw the S3 for the first time and really liked it. It's kinda like the grown up, more refined version on my WRX. I just hope it turns out ot be as reliable. I had my Subaru for 8 years and it was bulletproof.
But this S3 is in a whole other class. The interior is amazing.

Nice looking S3! The EA888 engine family has a long history (in production since 2008) and it has gone through 3 generations. There are no known issues with the engine per se. There have been issues with water pump, HPFP, Fuel Injectors but the quality of these things are dependent on whoever is supplying them to Audi/VW. The engine itself is bullet-proof and known to be reliable. I should know, I own a VW MK6 GTI with a second gen EA888 engine.
There is an issue of oil consumption with some older EA888 engines but, I have read that Audi/VW have improved the quality of the piston rings/piston chamber sleeves so this is no longer an issue.
As for the S-tronic Tranny (or in VW speak DSG), it is also bullet-proof. Early models back in 2008 to 2010 had issues with the mechatronic units. However, all of that went away. The S-tronic tranny is one of the best dual-clutch trannys that exist in a mass production vehicle. I am sure you'll love it and it will serve you well as long as you take care of it.
As for fluids, make sure they comply with VW standard oils and fluids. Here is a link to Audi Canada's Tech Bulletin concerning approved oils
As for the S-tronic or DSG fluid, consult your dealer's service department or your vehicle's service manual for the flush/fill intervals. I believe, if my memory serves me right, you do not need to change it until 55K or 60K.
