Default Brake Pad Replacement Question

I currently drive a 2015 Audi A3 AWD with 38k miles on it and I never had to change the brakes yet. I am hearing some squealing noises now, but the mechanic still tells me I should be good for another 3-4 months. He did mention it looks like the back brakes are wearing down more than the front? This is my first Audi so I don't know how often items like this gets replaced, but I know with my previous Civic I had to change the brakes every 15-20k or so (City driving). I"m just curious if you folks changed your brakes already for front and/or back and how many miles you normally change them on Audi's. Also was it a fairly easy DIY? Thanks!

I have a 2015 A3 Cab 2.0 T Quatro with about 35000 miles. I have had no issue with the brakes yet.
