CarPlay on pre-facelift - Can it be added?

I've spoken to the Audi US people about the possibility of upgrading to CarPlay/Auto in older A3 MMI systems. I was told it's not possible. Different screen, etc.

CarPlay sucks, it only works when the phone is plugged in. Ive only used it once and that was when i first set up my car. you're not missing out on anything

Well I would't say it sucks, but I do think it's over rated and locks you into apple 'sanctified' apps... which is annoying for sure. It is no-nonesense and works, but just for a small number of features.

I love Car Play except for one thing- you have to use Apple Maps for your NAV - not near as good as google maps. And Car Play screams for a good touchscreen (Like in my Golf R) using the scroll wheel to Navigate isnt nearly as good. But all in all, ill take car play over the cars system no matter what.
