Default Do i need winter Tires?

I just got a 2018 S3 with the 19" black optics. I live in CT & my last 2015 S3 had the 18" all weather package. I could tackle a few inches with the all seasons no problem, but am i going to die if i try and drive this thing with a couple inches.

If you have summer tires on the S3.

You sure do. Summer tires are not good below 45* F.

YES. You will regret it if you don't. My old rwd 325i with balding all seasons handled better than the s3 with summers the first year i had it and figured "how bad can it be, its AWD?" to rationalize not buying a set of winter wheels. Then again i don't know how freezy it gets there. I'm in MN so I guess we have winter tire weather longer than most places.

Yup, I know half a dozen stories about summer tires in cold weather, not a good plan.

I live in DC, probably similar weather, maybe even less cold and snow and think winter tires are a must. Summer tires not designed to be used under 45 degrees. Tire Rack has some good information on the need for winter tires.

If you got by with all seasons on your 2015 S3 with all seasons. You might want to look at Pirelli P zero high performance all seasons or Continental DWS-06 all seasons and ditch/sell the summer tyres. I have the Pirelli ones and they are OK for light snow as are all all seasons but snow tyres are the way to go for heavy snow and icy roads. I just park my car when the snow is over 2-3". The Pirelli P Zero all seasons are a compromise but preform very well in dry/wet conditions and high performance Summer tyres are just plain dangerous in cold/ice/snow conditions

Quattro helps you go in snow / cold weather; winter tires enable you to stop.
