Default Extended Warranty.....is it really needed???

My 2015 S3 is about the cross the 50k threshold this summer and I’m wondering if an extended warranty is needed on this car. The only real issue I’ve read about these cars is the Haldex, unless I’m missing something, please chime in.

If I do get the warranty I’ve been quoted 72m/84k for $2,700 with a $100 deductible.

Sounds like you trust the car, unlike a 2015 you've just bought used from a curber for instance. Can you afford the risk of a potential $10k repair bill vs a guaranteed $2,700 cost now? I'm sure the warranty firm is expecting to make a profit on your transaction. There's a lot of sensors and electronics on these cars, If I was looking at a warranty, I'd want those to be covered. my $.02.

What is being included in the extended warranty? That also strikes me as being an odd warranty that goes up to 84k miles? How did they come up with that number? Why not 100k miles for example? If they're going to provide 72 months that seems like low mileage to me.

Is that the cost for 84k additional miles, or 84k miles in total? $2,700 seems steep it it's only for 34,000 additional miles, but if it gives you peace of mind all the way up to 134,000 miles, then it might be worth it.

That's a very good question and I didn't think about that. If it's ADDITIONAL miles and months, that could very well be worth $2,700. Certainly a peace of mind to be sure.

I just had my whole transmission changed under warranty for my 2016 S3, which cost about $15,000 due to an internal problem. Just saying ..

My 2015 Audi A3 is approaching the 50K mile mark soon too. The last time I discussed warranty discussion at the dealer is when I went in for my 45K service at 43K miles and had issues with the car battery.
I was debating between Extended Warranty or Extended AudiCare... I might just get both.

All Audi repairs are pricey, and a single, not too serious out-of-warranty repair issue can justify the cost of an extended. I have an extended warranty on my 2011 S5. I bought the warranty when the car had about 5K miles with a price and coverage very similar to the one mentioned above. The factory warranty ran out in early 2015. The car has 49K miles on it and the extended warranty has paid for over $8K in repairs (sensors, fuel pump, cracked fluid tank, etc...Most Audi repairs seem to come in multiples of $500, so it doesn't take much to justify the extended. The peace of mind is significant.

good to know. can i ask which warranty company you went with?

also, (sorry), was your 997s pretty reliable, and would ever see a problem with buying one used?

Don't mean to hijack this dialog but I'm willing to bet it costs a hell of a lot more to repair 997s.
