Key malfunction
I left the house the other day travelling about 35 km to a medical appointment. Once there I shut the car off and tried to pop the trunk from inside. It wouldn't open. I got out and opened the trunk by lifting the lid. I then shut the trunk and attempted to lock it. Nothing...... I finished my appointment so off I go, however, the car wouldn't start. It showed on the display key malfunction please review manual. I didn't have my reading glasses so I made call to Audicare. I was told a tow truck would arrive within 90 minutes. The never occurred. My son came with the spare remote and it started no problem. Now off to the dealer and my problem is fixed with a new battery for the first remote. There was no advance warning that the battery was in need of replacement. What would have happened if this incident occurred on a Sunday when the dealers are closed???? Anyway I eventually cancelled the tow. I was not impressed with the poor service waiting for the tow truck when it was -12C. Anybody else ever had this occur?

if you read the manual it says to hold the key directly against the steering column where you would normally insert the key on other cars. the area is actually outlined on the steering column. if you hold your key fob directly against it, it will start with a dead batter.

I didn't have my reading glasses when this occurred so I could not read my manual.
it wasnt a key malfunction, it was an eye sight malfunction. haha |
Same thing happened to me. Drove to destination fine after getting back to car, tried to start and nothing. At least the wife was with me and she had the other key on her.
Car was only a year old. Key remote batteries don't last. Should almost key a spare battery in glove box. |

or just hold the key fob with the dead batter to the steering column like hte manual says. lol |
A similar thing happened to me this morning. Luckily I kept my owner's manual handy in my glovebox to know what to do until I can get some new batteries!

I could swear mine gave me a warning when my battery was low. i drove it around for at least a week before changing the battery. You sure the car didn't warn you?
