I have a A3 2010 2.0 turbo Quattro
I was very lucky to pick this up at 52,000km mint condition

I recently lost nearly all (apart from 1ltr) of the transmission oil
let me explain
as you all know the transmission oil filter cover is under the battery
before I got the car the battery was leaking acid, the acid went through the battery pan and
dripped onto the filter cover, after enough acid drips the plastic cover wore down
the hole was the size of a drinking straw, and within seconds I lost the oil.

I very quickly stopped the car, engine off, lots of smoke as the oil was all around the exhaust
After getting back to the garage checked the remaining oil for metal filings and burnt oil, all good thank heavens
changed the filter and the cover and all the oil, back on the road
moral of this story
regularly check for acid from the battery
and the top of the oil filter cover

This is the most interesting FAIL I've heard of - wow - I also image to not kill an alien face-hugger over your engine compartment, super tempting I know.
