Mechanical differences between A3 and S3?
Curious if anyone can list these? I assume the brakes are bigger, and obviously the HP/TQ is higher on the S3. Is it just that the boost pressure is increased? Is it not pretty much the same engine? Can the same effect be achieved via a REVO/APR tune?
Not interested in cosmetic differences, just mechanical (Engine/ Exhaust/ suspension, etc)
Thank you in advance.

thank you for that...interesting read about the engine...seems like quite different mechanically to be able to safely transfer more power.... any other differences other than the motor?

Suspension, mag ride.....exhaust with flaps open in sport, dynamic mode....haldex with dynamic mode(more power to rear wheels) steering wheel, etc. etc.

I think the OP is asking if the internal engine components are different between the A3 vs S3. My hunch is they are not. The S3 article you linked mentioned upgrade connecting rods. Per ECS, the A3 and S3 have the same part number. I bet that's true of other engine components like the pistons. The block is definitely the same. I believe the only real engine difference is the turbo size, IS20 vs. IS38 and the tuning software. I would love if someone could proof me wrong.

Yah, I was trying to be funny about the rattles and ride quality, but I was also serious, an A3 premium with 17 inch wheels and standard suspension height drives totally differently from an S3 that is tricked out with 19 inch rubber bands when it comes to comfort and noise levels.
That should be obvious, but somehow I was surprised by it when I went from one to the other.

I live in a city where the roads are total trash. I'd never be on 19s or 20s. I was simply trying to see if an A3 on 18s with sports package and a REVO or APR tune would be comparable to a stock s3 on 18s. Hence curious about mechanical differences.

The biggest issue with that package is your warranty is null and void. Also that sports package includes a sports suspension and that is lowered and probably equivalent to 19" and S3 mag ride in auto setting as far as ride quality
