Default Is this noise normal?

I just bought a used A3 2015 last week. I'm hearing some noise in the car when I turn the engine on. Its not loud enough to be able to hear when I'm driving but I wanted to know whether this is an issue. I still have a few days where I can return the car to the dealer..

Here is a video recording of the sound I'm hearing:

Are you taking about the ticking or the somewhat low level knocking noise at the end of the video? Knocking is concerning. Sounds premature and I'd have another dealer look at it and then bring it back to the one you bought it from if they suspect a problem.

You can keep and deal with warranty, but could be long term issues after warranty. CPO car? Extended warranty?

I heard something whirring last weekend after I turned on the engine. Its faint but its repetitive and you can hear it when inside the car. Decided to pop the hood and see what the sound was about the next day and recorded the video. Its not the knocking sound though, thats just wind

Bought my car on Beepi.com (10 day money back warranty)

Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Yes, I am talking about the ticking. Is that normal?

I am just a shade tree mechanic and new to the Audi but that does not sound normal. It does not sound like lifters but I would check the oil level to make sure. It sounds like a bearing is about to go on something.

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me how the lifters are related to the oil level? Is this related to a bearing? Or could be different issue?

Thanks!

Hydraulic lifters are self-adjusting. They will tick when something causes them to lose their internal oil pressure or sometimes the case is that you are really low on oil.

The bearing is a different issue. Bearings are used all over the motor, basically anything that spins has bearings in it. The fun is finding which part is causing the noise. Alternators, and Water pumps are usually the main ones.

Did you end up keeping the car? The ticking is normal, however it does sound like you might have bearing failure from the rather loud knocking.
