Oil fill up thread: how often do you add oil?

As silly as it sounds, see your car manual regarding oil level check procedure. I don't have an RS3 but wouldn't be surprised if Audi instructions are similar across engines. Our Q3 manual says to operate the car until the engine is warm, shut it down, and check the dipstick after a few minutes to get a correct read of the oil level.
Naively, I would have assumed that checking a dead cold engine might show an incorrect "high" level on the dipstick rather than low. But, that's assuming the procedure above would pump oil up into other passages and away from the sump. But, maybe it's the other way around and the dipstick is measuring some intermediate galley rather than the oil that would pool at the sump after sitting over night...?

The best way to measure your oil level is with a cold engine on a level surface, failing that, on a warm engine after it has been shut off for at least 10 minutes and again on a level surface

2018 RS3: added a half quart of oil 10-12k into the 16k km cycle
ymmv
my dealer does the top-up for free, quickly, and with a vacuum/clean
I've had good success with the 'check oil' light being accurate.

I'm th OP. Can't login using my facebook account to the forum.
Just checked the oil level today and it was 3/4 full. Very annoying. 4200 KMs only. I've double checked this time just to be sure and same results.
