RS3 recall: center headrest may not be attached properly

NHTSA issued a recall saying the center headrest may not work properly in a crash...

I just got the same thing in the mail yesterday, but own a 2018 S3. I thought it was odd that the mailed notice only names the A3 and RS3. I assume I still need it.

Yes, the 18/ S3 is included in the recall. I called my dealer. They said it can wait until I bring the car in for other services. The pins in my headrest "appear" to be in place.

Taking mine in on the 19th. I wonder how long it will take them to fix it, I have a laundry list of other items i would like for them to address. First world problems but driving an A4 around or a bloody Q3 is so weird when you are used to an S car. So sluggish, and then when I get mine back I'm struck by how (mildly) harsh the S3 ride can be.

I had the opportunity to read the bulletin for this recall a month ago. The issue is not the plastic pins that hold the head rest but the welded metal guide plates in the seat back frame which the plastic pieces connect to. The recall requires technicians to inspect the welds and, if cracked, replace the seat back frame. I may be slightly off but that was the gist I got when going over it.

Amazing how this was even discovered. I've decided to ignore it at this time. Why? because I took all the rear headrests out of my RS3. HUGE difference in rearward visibility. I never have rear seat passengers and the empty holes in the seat tops don't bother me all that much. Maybe someday we'll get rear facing cameras mirrors like GT3 cars and the headrests won't be such a bother. To me anyway.
