Based on the early reports the new 2.5 motor looks like it puts out substantially more torque than the rated power (if the Dyno is correct) and what would appear to be an ECU flash away from the magic 500hp/500ftlbs! Not sure I'd be willing to go down that road right away with the obvious warranty concerns but DAMN!

I am supposedly getting 400 hp on my S3 with an APR Stage II tune with downpipe. That's slightly more than 100 hp over stock. No reason NOT to expect the RS3 2.5 powerplant to hit 500 hp fairly easily. I was semi worried about warranty issues but threw caution to the wind. Not disappointed. Great fun and not a single problem to date!

While I'd certainly agree that absolute numbers wouldn't necessarily be 100% accurate. I'd argue however that every dyno pull wherever it takes place adds another datapoint. Over time a pattern will emerge and the outliers, (whether from a inaccurate dyno or an over/under performing vehicle) will be weeded out.
That collective data set will indeed begin to paint a picture with ever increasing accuracy of the true numbers being realized.

I intend to have a power run done as a baseline after 500 miles. Then I'll stick it in a drawer (or maybe a frame) and wait to see what the tuners come up with. When I bought my last car I waited until about 3k miles to get a tune (physical APR chip), but I also got a second ECU so I could swap it out for dealer warranty service. Always told myself I would go further once the warranty expired. Well, that happen more than a decade ago and I'm just now starting serious mods on that car (now that I'll have an RS3 soonish). In summary, yes, I want maaad powwa, but it'll probably be a long time before I go there because I suspect the "stock" power will keep me happy for a while.
