Key fob battery failing after 12 months service. Previous battery failed after one year (car was 3 yo) Is this to be expected? Nissan and Toyota key fobs never needed new batteries , longer than 6 years.

No, that is not normal. In fact, I have never replaced a battery in any of my key fobs, which includes a car built in 2005 believe it or not.

The battery in my Q7's FOB is still going strong after a year.. Last year after 4 years I replaced the battery in one of my other vehicles key fob with a brand new Duracell battery. The FOB was still working fine but I figured since it was 4 years old I should replace it. That new battery literally lasted 3 months, go figure. Sometimes you get a battery with a weak cell..

I purchased my car CPO last year around this time, and they said that the batteries were new on my FOB. But last month I got "replace key battery" warnings for about a week, until it went away (without me replacing it) and so far it's still working fine.

some batteries (especially from the internet) are less than stellar, even name brands as JT4 stated. You never know how they were stored and what their shelf life was. Besides improper storage, the only other thing i can think of is perhaps the key fob is being pressed in your pocket causing drain. Most batteries will last 3-4+ years in remotes.
