My 18 S3 screen retracts while in motion... and then there's a slot on the dash that looks odd to me. I just leave it up. I can imagine it annoying me if it didnt do it, but it's not useful UNLESS you want to darken the cabin completely at night.

I had my one year, 10,000 mile service done yesterday and I can still lower the screen by pushing the button, on my 2018 S3.

Note that on the 2019, the button now has a screen with power icon on it (before it had an up/down arrow icon). Pushing the button blacks out the screen and nothing else.

Hi Nate,

Tom (Texas Tom) and I were discussing that very Button yesterday and actually trying it out.
As you pointed out above ^^^ it does Turn-Off that Dash Display completely.
Tom said while he's driving at night where there are No-Exterior lights at all that display lit-up can be irritating.
So in his case he will now just turn it off when it's not needed.

Hi Nate,

Thanks for the tip on that Dash Display button.
I just got my 2019 RS3 so might not have discovered that for some time.
As Terry stated above I am fairly often driving at night in the countryside with no exterior lights.
So, this will be very helpful to me.

Cheers,
Tom

Just so you know Tom is NOT referring to his (Head-Lights) being turned-off. LOL !!!

He's actually talking about exterior lights like when we drive in a city etc.
In the Country there are no outside lights like we take for granted driving in the more populated areas.

Hi PaperLion,

Yes, it would be dangerous driving at night with no headlights.
Even I know that!!!
But, obviously I was referring to what Terry mentioned above.
No street lights or mall lights, etc. outside the car.
Under those conditions the bright dash display is distracting to me.
So, I can just press a button and that distracting interior light is gone.
During the daylight or at night in a bright city that display is not an issue.

Cheers,
Tom

My 2018 has the same I/O power button and my screen retracts when it's pushed.

UN-Fortunately for us that have the 2019 RS3's we can turn-off the dash display ONLY but NOT drop it down.
