Springs Vs. Coilovers? 2015 A3 TDI
Hey guys,
I've had my 2015 A3 TDI for about 6 months now and have a couple exterior mods to just help out the overall look. I've swapped the stock 17's for larger OEM 19's, but I'm now itching to fix the HUGE fender gap that I've got due to the stock suspension (Non-S Line).
I know that I will be keeping this car for 3-5 years, but I'm still not all the way sold on spending so much money on Coilovers. Can you guys point me in the right direction based on experience?
Which springs have worked best for you?
Is it worth it to do coilovers in the long run?
Has any purchased S-LINE/Sport OEM Springs and swapped them out?
Attached are some photos of my current set up and any/all recommendations would be helpful, being that this is my first time doing any suspension mods on my car.

Subscribed. I'm looking at adding springs as well, wished my car had the sports suspension, the upgrade would've offset the labor / part that are going into the car now. Are you planning to track or auto-x your car?

I don't plan on tracking or X-crossing, but I do drive a lot for work. I don't want a bouncy ride (which seems to be the typical issue from what I'm told with springs) and I'm not all the way sold on coilovers due to the price.
I'm hoping that I can just buy some OEM Sport Springs and have the same look. I just cant seem to find anyone that has done that.

Your best bet is the Bilstein B12 kit or getting Eibach prokit springs + Bilstein B8 shocks separately (it is the same thing).
I have that setup and it is the best bang for the buck setup for road use (no tracking or X-crossing). It is firm but still comfortable.

That looks great, it sits perfect. After looking at your recommendation on the B12 Kit, it’s not much cheaper than the ST Coilovers. Is there any particular reason that you went that with the B12 Kit Instead?

Yea, my reasons are as follows:
1) Bilstein quality and reliability
2) I don't track or auto cross or anything.
3) I don't need or will ever adjust the height
4) I live up North and coilover is prone to corrosion
5) Do it right or do it twice, so it is either coilover or matched spring+shock
BTW, another alternative if you need height adjustability is the B14 coilover. It is maybe 15% pricier than the B12.
Also, please double check the part numbers of the springs and shocks very carefully as they may be different for TDI and the Quattro cars.
