I’ve developed the habit of driving in sport mode nearly all the time and only using D for highway cruising. SS not even a factor

To be honest, it depends on the dealer and what the visit entails. Showing up for just a service with no issues - I doubt you would have any issues with SS disabled (or them even noticing as some have mentioned). Have a check engine light / engine issue / battery issue, they then may call out the modification to disable SS.

To each their own, I have several VCDS changes on the car so I just revert back to stock for the yearly trip to the dealer. That is me however and up to you what you decide. Cheers.

Page 82 in the manual has a tip in this paragraph about light braking to keep the engine from stopping.

I was hoping that you could hold down the button to force the Start/Stop system to default to off, but there's no mention of that. Might want to try it anyway.
