I think the spare argument boils down to auto mfrs trying to attain superior fuel economy and ridding vehicles of weight. I don't recall the exact number, but a high percentage of vehicles never use the spare tire during the car's lifetime.

Don't think it is bad luck anymore :-(. Happened again today. The same tire has blown and now I'm stuck at home for all the weekend.
I think that the 255/19/30 front tires are awful. Every pot hole in the road causes it to blow up.

If that's the case, you may want to look into downsizing to an 18" wheel/tire setup - make sure to find a setup that will clear your front brakes.

I had to replace both fronts (235/35R19) recently on my S3 for the same reason - our roads are not even that bad here! If it occurs more often, then I will definitely downsize to an 18" setup.

Will consider that.

Thanks!

Wow, that's some bad luck and roads, where do you live so we all know where road maintenance is poorly maintained.

You could try running higher than normal tire pressure too but that comes with obvious side effects.

I'm not from the US so I assume it is not relevant :-)
Might be. Worse the try.

I fixed the tire today (actually the other tire had a small bubble so I have replaced them both. Damage? 1000 USD.
I haven't asked but I assume that replacing all four wheels to 235 will cost around 10K USD :-(

I wouldn't replace all 4 wheels with OE wheels if I had to replace them. So, it won't cost $10K USD, unless I want to replace them with some super light weight fancy name brand forged wheels. You'll only need to spend around $2K to $3K for some really good Flow-Formed/Rotary Forged wheels (less if you go with some not so well known brands).

Default Tyre repair kit

If your repair kit uses latex liquid as most do including my new Renault Megane RS280, most tyre repairers will not touch it as it is toxic and makes a real mess. If left in too long it can corrode the wheel as well. I have replaced my repair kit with a Trydel Up & Go emergency repair kit made here in Australia. No such problems as I needed to use mine late one night. Fixed and going in ten minutes including reading instructions. No problem with getting the tyre fixed. The liquid used just washes out and has no toxic fumes.l
