thermostat issue on 2018 rs3?
Hello,
Something weird i noticed on my rs3 and not sure if that is supposed to happen or i have an issue with thermostat.
The temperature at the moment is 0-5 degrees celcius. I have a ~7km drive to work through traffic. I noticed that as the car heats up (the coolant indicator displays extra bars), and i stop and the start/stop shuts the engine off, the bars disapear ie. everytime start/stop engages the coolant cools very rapidly. For example, the car displays extra 2 bars, as soon as i stop, the 2 bars go away and the indicator displays the car as being completely cold.
Yesterday i had a 1 hour drive and the car was fully warm, as soon as i stopped at the first traffic ligjt and start/stop engaged - coolant temperature dropped by one bar.
Is this supposed to happen?
This never happens on my wifes 2018 Q5, or any other audis i've had previously.

Not sure how much I can help but here goes. Obviously a 4 mile (7km) isn't sufficient to fully warm up an engine but an hour drive definitely is! As previously stated we don't have that annoying start/stop "feature", but when I stop at a red light for a few minutes I will see the coolant go from 202F (94.4C) down to 198 (92.2) and then goes back up to 202 again once I start driving again. This is happening with an outside temperature of ~45F (7C). So I see a small drop but not sure what one bar represents in F or C.
