What is that noise on all these S3's?
Was originally looking to trade my A4 on a new RS3 but after visiting several dealers reality set in that I could not get a good deal as the price is high. I started looking at used and new S3's and like them but noticed on all the cars I test drove that there is a annoying thump from the rear end when I drove over bumps or small potholes. On all the cars I drove I had the suspension on Comfort from the magnetic ride. Is this normal or is there a fix?
Also does anyone notice a difference in the 6 speed vs. the 7 speed in terms of reduced RPM's on the freeway and gas mileage?
And lastly can anyone tell me how to reduce my picture of my car in my profile? I only meant for it to be a thumbnail. It's way too large. Thanks for the help!

I can tell you my S3 has this thump and the demo I drove also had it. It is defintely annoying and I have not seen any tsb's that has a fix for it. The sales rep told me it was the magnetic ride control although I call BS on that as my ATSV also had MRC and it did not do this.
Now I just ignore it and enjoy the car for all the other features it brings.

I've got no thump, but .....
1. Could be rear shock mounts - they are a cheap part and not hard to replace yourself.
2. The A3/S3 is noisier than the A4/S4 (had 3 of those too)

This was an issue on all PFL S3 sedan models and is fixed by the TSB for the rear shock mount. The FL S3 2017 model year up has the factory rear shock mount fix.
